Lead the data platform that powers the AI feeding the world. Source.ag is hiring a Software Engineer (Platform & Data) to own our Databricks/dbt stack and shape our data engineering future.

Job description

About Source.ag: The Mission

At Source.ag, we are on a mission to empower the world's growers with AI to sustainably feed a growing global population. The world’s leading growers use our SaaS products to optimize their operations, improve yields, and increase resource efficiency. We don't just sell software; we build deep partnerships with our customers to solve some of the most fundamental challenges in the global food supply chain.

This is not a typical software problem. We are modeling the complex, biological reality of a high-tech greenhouse and translating it into actionable intelligence. If you are excited by the challenge of using technology to solve real-world problems at a global scale, this is the place for you.

The Opportunity: What You'll Do

As a Software Engineer on our Platform & Data team, you will be the backbone of our engineering organization. The Platform team's mission is to accelerate all other product teams by providing robust, scalable, and easy-to-use infrastructure, common components, and a world-class data platform.

This is a role for an engineer who loves both building resilient backend services and creating powerful data systems. As our subject-matter expert in data platform engineering, you will be instrumental in leading the vision, architecture, and development of our Databricks environment. You will establish best practices, mentor other engineers, and drive the technical roadmap for our data platform, directly impacting our ability to leverage data across the company. A key project will be building out our "Cloud Modules," which allow our enterprise customers to securely access their data for their own BI and analysis.

In this role, you will:

  • Establish strong foundations and guardrails that empower other engineers and data scientists to confidently build and maintain high-quality data assets using python, Spark, dbt and SQL.

  • Define and evolve the technical direction of our Databricks platform, applying your data engineering expertise to ensure it evolves with the needs of our product teams.

  • Establish and champion data engineering best practices, including data modeling, testing, and CI/CD for our data stack.

  • Build shared tooling, automation, and documentation to streamline onboarding, improve productivity, and promote consistent use of the platform.

  • Contribute to our core platform services, written in Golang and gRPC, that provide capabilities and data to other services and our customers.

What Makes an Engineer Successful at Source.ag

We are looking for pragmatic system builders who thrive on solving complex problems. We value a specific mindset over a list of keywords.

We believe you'll be successful if you:

  • Have a "Problem-First" Mindset: When faced with a request, your first instinct is to ask, "What is the underlying problem we are trying to solve?" You are driven to find the most efficient solution to the root cause.

  • Take High Ownership: You feel a deep sense of accountability for your work. You see projects through to completion and are proactive about identifying and fixing issues.

  • Are a Pragmatic Builder: You have a bias for action and know how to find the 80/20 solution to deliver value quickly without sacrificing quality. You have a strong sense of what it takes to build and operate real-world systems.

  • Think in Systems: You don't just see your service; you see how it fits into the broader architecture. You can reason about dependencies, data flows, and the impact of your changes.

  • Communicate with Clarity: You can articulate complex technical ideas simply and directly, both in writing (docs, code comments) and in person.

Our Way of Working

We are a high-performance team on a mission to solve a massive global challenge. This means we move fast, embrace change, and are constantly learning. Our environment is for builders who thrive on autonomy and are energized by seeing their work create a direct impact. We value velocity and pragmatism over bureaucracy. If you are driven by learning, taking ownership, and want to be part of a team where your contributions truly matter, you will find a home here.

AI at Source.ag: How We Build

AI is core to how we operate and what we build. We equip our engineers with the best tools available, like Cursor and OpenAI's latest models, to accelerate development. If you are excited by the opportunity to apply modern AI and LLMs to a unique, real-world dataset to solve complex problems, you will be right at home here.

If you are a builder who wants to make a tangible impact on a global scale and are excited by the challenge of solving hard problems, we would love to hear from you.

Job requirements

  • Proven relevant work experience building and operating production systems (typically 4+ years), with a strong focus on either backend or data engineering, and a demonstrated interest in the other.
