As the Lead Data Scientist of our Control Irrigation team, you will be responsible for setting the modelling vision and ambition for our fertigation models in line with our company and R&D strategy; for preparing the roadmap for your team in collaboration with other departments; and for building with your team performant AI models which help greenhouse growers irrigate optimally every day. You will work closely with our Product and Engineering teams to bring the best product to our customers, as well as with our Operations team and growers to translate their feedback into model improvements for next versions. You will have a team of Data Scientists reporting to you, who you will manage and coach on a daily basis. You will work alongside the other Lead Scientists of Source, and report to our VP of Science.


What we’d love you to get excited about

  • Pushing the boundaries of data science and plant science to build state-of-the-art models fuelling innovative products for our customers

  • Owning the end-to-end modelling decisions for a large scope, from early brainstorming to delivery in production systems

  • Creating robust logic pipelines which run 24/7 and autonomously control the irrigation process in many greenhouses all across the globe

  • Combining data, domain knowledge, science, growers’ experience, statistics and AI/ML tooling to solve critical business problems

  • Embodying Source’s mission of building the world’s best Data & AI solutions for growers and translate it into short- and long-term next steps to move forwards on the journey

  • Shaping the trajectory of Source’s Science department as part of the leadership team

Job requirements

You have

  • An MSc or PhD in a quantitative discipline

  • Education and experience in modelling physical systems in silico

  • Proven track record of developing models meant to be used in production environment

  • Deep knowledge of systems modelling, control engineering, signal processing, data engineering, machine learning, mathematical optimisation

  • Experience in leading teams of scientists, including coaching, focus on personal growth and performance reviews

  • Structured problem-solving abilities, to organise work both for yourself and for the team

  • Clear presentation and communication skills with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to people from other fields

  • Business acumen and empathy, ability to consider technical, tactical, operational and commercial aspects in making decisions

  • Experience working in Python for large projects, in collaboration with Software Engineers

  • Good knowledge of software development best practices, as well as cloud deployment principles
